My Classroom Photos

Hi, Friends!

I'm happy to report that I survived the first few days of the school year! I have the biggest class to date (23 students at this moment) and it's nearly two-thirds boys! They're rambunctious (what 6 and 7 year olds aren't?) but eager to learn! They've caught on quickly to the rules and procedures of the classroom and school. We are having fun practicing how to line up, how to behave during restroom breaks, and how to conduct ourselves in the classroom. Like the old saying goes, "You get more flies with honey than with vinegar" (what kind of weirdo is catching flies?)- I've been praising positive behaviors and getting great results! I'm trying to rest up this weekend as next week is our first full week.

This year I'm implementing the Whole Brain Teaching techniques, as well as the CAFE and Daily Five programs. I've attached some photos of my CAFE board. I am teaching the last Whole Brain Teaching classroom rule on Monday (it's my favorite: Keep Your Dear Teacher Happy). I'll post my WBT rules display after I've posted the last rule.

I took some pictures right before open house. It's amazing how crazy and cluttered I know it will be in a few short months! I'm really trying to maximize space and stay organized this year. I'll keep you posted on how that goes!

This is the first year I'm implementing CAFE with the Daily Five.

Love my "Garden of Good Manners"- it was given to me by a sweet friend!

This year I'm using desks instead of tables. Not sure about how it's going to work out but I'm staying optimistic!

Nice, soft light with the lamps on.

I am in love with Skippyjon Jones and Pete the Cat!

I made my word wall magnetic this year and stuck it on the chalkboard! The whiteboard to the right used to be a bulletin board. My teaching partner's Dad cut a piece of melamine and boom! Instant whiteboard!

Amazing how a fun tablecloth makes the reading group table POP!

I made new labels for my classroom library.

I gussied up a few lamps for my room this year.

I made this fun bunting banner from book jackets!

Fun door display!

My new teaching partner (L) and me (R)! Ready to take on first grade! I should have worn taller shoes! Story of my life!

For all my teacher friends & parents, happy back-to-school!
Hoping this is the BEST year yet!

It's August Already?

Gee Whiz! For a girl who wanted to get SO many blog posts done over the summer, I've once again been slacking majorly! In my own defense, I have been pret-ty busy trying to squeeze in every last bit of fun to be had before I head back to school. In the last three weekends I've attended a music festival, helped to organize my class reunion (success!), and just came home from a weekend on the river kayaking with 14 of my best friends. If you know me at all, you know I had my camera available to capture some funny moments:

My hubby (right) and his best friend, the Strizzle Dizzle. Partners in crime for life!

Squirrel stole some peanut butter crackers out of our grocery bag! Sneaky!

These girls make my face hurt from laughing!

Riverside campsite I feel as though I'm in full-on back to school mode. The kayaking trip was the last "fun" adventure I had planned for the summer and I told myself that after it was over, I was going to dedicate myself to my here I go...sniff, sniff, tiny tear... :)

In preparation for back to school, I've been snatching up all kinds of great goodies on Teachers Pay Teachers for the beginning of the year. Yesterday I picked up a character education packet, a narrative writing unit and a free back to school getting to know you activity! I don't know where these people find the time and energy to put such great stuff out there! I only have 2 items in my TPT store so far! (BTW, head on over and pick up my back to school "I have, who has" game!)

Yesterday, via Pinterest, I came upon a "currently" page and I fell in I made my own to link up with all of theirs! (If you haven't visited Farley's Site yet, do yourself a favor and get over there!)

Here is my August Currently...

So fun, right? I'm hoping to make this a monthly occurrence...let's see if I can stick with it!

Ooooh, I also signed up to become a Pen Pal!

The Teacher Idea Factory is organizing a HUGE pen-pal list! I'm so excited to get my kiddos in on the fun! If you're a teacher and are interested in this program, stop on by and check it out!

I also purchased This awesome pack to go with my unit!

Okay! I think I'm done for now! I have some DIY projects in the works as well as 6 blog posts I'm currently working on. But first...I have to unpack from this camping trip!

Have a super day!
