Field Trip Five for Friday

It's Friday, which means it's time for Doodle Bug's Five for Friday!

Let's Go!

I heart Instagram. I really do. I love getting little glimpses into other teachers' lives and classrooms. Seeing projects, dogs,'s all so much fun! In the last couple of weeks I've been following more teachers and in turn, they've been following me too. (Want to follow? Find me @first_grade_fo) Come on over, join the party! Some of my favorite hashtags to follow/participate in are #sharewhatchawear #teachertalktuesday #PADteacherchallenge and, of course, #firstgradefollies :)

Our alphabet countdown is getting smaller! This is from letter M day, when we made macaroni neckla
(Well, they were rotini, but we're not getting technical!)
I used neon food coloring and rubbing alcohol and was really pleased with the bright colors!

Our chrysalises are up in the butterfly box and we're anxiously awaiting our butterflies' arrival! I felt like MacGyver getting them up there...and even though they haven't hatched yet, I know I'll be sad to see them go. It's been neat to watch the life cycle take place in front of our eyes.

We took our field trip today! We visited the Anderson-Hancock Planetarium at Marietta College and it was so cool! We also visited a local park and had a picnic lunch...complete with ducks, geese, & their babies!

Sweet notes like this make me so glad to be a teacher.
I'm so lucky to be able to do what I do.
That being said, I'm also crazy-ready for summer break.
9 more days!

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!

  1. I got my larvae today! I'm excited. I think I ordered them a bit too late so I hope we're able to let them go by the last day. That's be a great last day activity!

Thank for the tip about the neon food coloring and rubbing alcohol. It looks like the colors really took. (I love bright colors!) I was avoiding Instagram...but I may jump on the bandwagon for teaching. It's getting tempting.

You Might Be a First Grader….

    1. Our caterpillars grew REALLY fast! Hope yours metamorph-ise in time :) I mixed 1/2 c. Rubbing alcohol with 10-12 (or more for brighter) drops food coloring in a ziplock bag and added the pasta. Rotate bag every 15 mins for 1 hour & dry on paper towels.

  2. I can't believe how bright those colors are on your necklaces...

Only nine more days! Lucky you...

    1. I was pleasantly surprised at how bright they turned out!

  3. I'm addicted to Instagram too! Following you : )

So lucky to have only 9 more days! We have 19.

For the Love of First Grade

  4. Looks like I have to start exploring this Instagram thing! Are you all taking pictures with your phones throughout the day? We aren't really supposed to have our phones out...but I guess I could probably do it with my iPad instead. We have twice as many days left as you! Enjoy your last nine days!
