My Donors Choose Project!

I was so happy to read that my Donors Choose project to provide my classroom with 2 iPad Mini tablets (we have NONE so this is a big deal!) was accepted this weekend! Raise the roof!

Throughout the summer, as I've read various teaching blogs, I have seen so many fun/exciting/educational things that can be done in a classroom with an iPad. Phonics, reading, math, you name it, it can be improved with this technology. I really like the "Mini" design (my Mom has one and LOVES it) and if I chose the Mini-tablet option, I could provide my class with 2, rather than just 1 regular-sized iPad. My friend recently had a project funded through Donors Choose and it's such a cool organization!
I wrote up my proposal, sent it in, and it was approved! Yippee!

I love that until July 13th, all donations will be matched 100% by Donors Choose if you enter code: INSPIRE at checkout.  (The project's funding window technically runs through November 2nd).
I woke up smiling thinking about the friends that donated yesterday (I'm looking at you Finny's and Miss Emily!) Of course, I had to give it a shout-out on my bloggy-blog, too!

Do you have any experience with Donors Choose? What kind of project have you seen through? Do you have any that are posted right now? I'd love to see them!

Also, what do you do with iPads in your classroom? Favorite apps? I can't wait to use Class Dojo! It sounds really cool!

While I'm not exactly crazy-comfortable about soliciting donations, this is what needs to happen for me to see this project through to the end. Being able to provide my students with this technology will impact not only this year's students, but future classes to come!  That's lots of BANG for your BUCK!

Do you know anyone who would be interested in helping out? Feel free to pass my information their way I also have an e-mail that can be sent to anyone with all the information they'd need. I'd love to hear any experiences or advice on boosting this project's success. The teaching/blogging community is SO supportive of it's own, aren't we? I am truly grateful for each and every contribution!

Many THANKS in advance! Wish me luck! :)

YIKES! Also, the 4th festivities had us BUSY this past weekend. So busy, in fact, that I completely spaced & never revealed my What's THAT? Wednesday object. Sorry about that!

1. Here was the close-up:

They were: PHISH tickets (from last summer). Last Wednesday marked the start of their Summer Tour!
We'll be seeing them THIS Saturday & Sunday in Maryland & I'm so excited!

2. Many of you got this right! The original:

...and the reveal! Pine nuts! I like to toast them for salads. So good!

3. A sunny face:

This came from a Bell's Oberon cap! This brew is a summertime favorite of ours!

4. Finally...stars & stripes!

This is one of my favorite coffee mugs! It's from Beaumont Brothers Pottery in Crooksville, Ohio, which isn't too far from me.

I'll be back this week for another installment of my What's THAT? Wednesday linky.
Link up with us & join in the fun!

  1. How will lvoe having ipads in the classroom. I use mine for QR codes a lot...tons of free QR readers are available. Toontastic is another favorite...they get to turn stories they have written into cartoons. Show Me is great for having students show you what they know. It records their voice and what they draw or write on the screen. GOOD LUCK!

    1. Oh, Kheila! You're making me SUPER excited about these iPads! There is so much good stuff out there! Thanks!

  2. Donorschoose Rocks! :) I have been very lucky to have several projects funded. Right now I'm looking for books for my student book club-fingers crossed. Good luck to you on getting funded! You will love Class Dojo-I call it magic in my classroom-I just pull up the app and suddenly everyone is on-task! :)

    1. Cool! I can't wait to use Class Dojo! If I don't have the iPads before school starts I can still update it from my phone, especially during guided math & reading time when I'm working with small groups. Good luck with your project!
