Teacher Week '13: Day 1: Meet the Teacher!

It's Teacher Week '13 at Blog Hoppin' and to kick it off, it's "Meet the Teacher" day!
(To check out what this is all about click the picture below)

So here's a little bit about the teacher behind the blog...ME!
It's also my 100th blog post! Wooty-woot-woot!

For those of you who don't know me, my name is Alisha and I live in Southeastern, Ohio. My community is small, but we have a lot of heart! I teach at the smallest of 3 elementary schools in our school district. This will be my fourth year teaching 1st grade. It's crazy, unpredictable, and so much fun! I graduated from Ohio University in 2009 with my bachelor's degree and just finished my master's degree at Marygrove College this-past spring. I'm glad to be taking a break from college...at least for a little while.

I live with my husband, our dog, Casey, and our cat, Fluffhead. Expanding our family is in our (hopefully) immediate plans and we are patiently (okay, sometimes not-so-patiently) waiting for our time to enter the parenting arena. Until then, we're enjoying the freedom to travel, seek adventures, and basically do whatever we want. I know this is short-lived and I'm determined to enjoy all that this time in my life has to offer.

I started blogging in the summer of 2011. Last year I created (and sold) my first product on TPT. It's been an interesting journey so far. My favorite things about blogging are the friendships I've made and the ideas I've gathered. Teachers are a clever bunch! Practically every day I use something in my classroom that was created by another teacher. Kudos to all of you!

1. I am an old lady trapped in a 30-something's body and I'm okay with that. I love houseplants. I hate fast driving. I have the urge to unplug my appliances when it storms. I'm trying to perfect my pie crust recipe. I can appreciate a good cup of tea. I yearn for more Tupperware. I find myself getting a little "stay-outta-my-yard" when dealing with neighbor kids, strangers, and ugly birds who eat all the good birdseed in my feeders. I buy shoes for comfort. I'm kind of creaky in the morning. I want to yell at kids to pull their freakin' PANTS up! I am shopping for a good face cream. I'm up at 5 a.m. and asleep by 9:30. Sometimes I think coordinated separates are cute. While I know that any one of these things, in isolation, is not old-ladyish, but I feel that the combination of my idiosyncrasies makes me a little older than my years. Like I said, I'm really okay with that.
Be who you are!
Wear it loud & proud!

2. I married Shrek. Well, kind of. We're lucky to have friends who do up Halloween in a BIG way! Costume parties, bonfires, monster-mashing until the wee hours of the morning...we like to have fun! The years since I've met my husband have seen us arriving to said parties as Shrek & Fiona, Drew Carey & Mimi, Jerry Garcia & Janis Joplin, Roaring 20's flapper/gangster, and one year, a geisha & Elvis (we weren't really coordinating outfits that year). Here are a couple of our more memorable costumes:

My husband went to the barber for a flat-top haircut this year. That's dedication!

By the end of the night my husband had misplaced his teeth, taken his bald cap off (he said his head was itchy) and had green paint all over the front of his shirt.

3. I think I could eat a BLT every single day. My favorite way is with peppered bacon, NO MAYO, tomatoes fresh from the garden, and spinach instead of lettuce.

4. If I weren't teaching, I think I'd be a baker. Maybe a pastry chef! I LOVE to cook & create in the kitchen. Sometimes it's knockout creations--sometimes it's huge messes! I'm always searching for unique and interesting ingredients and recipes. My next home will have a large kitchen! It's a must!

5. I long to head westward. Colorado, California, Washington, Oregon, Idaho...I want to see it all! I secretly (or not-so-secretly now) feel that if I visited, I wouldn't come home! Luckily, I've chosen a career that could take me anywhere in this country (or even this world), so I'm not counting out the possibility of a cross-country adventure in my future. There's so much of this world to see!

6. Even though my husband has tried to explain it to me, multiple times, I will never understand what The Matrix is about!

7. The smell of Nag Champa incense is one of my favorite scents.

8. I am SUCH a chicken in the dark! Thank goodness grownups can buy "decorative" nightlights disguised as air fresheners! A creepy hallway becomes cozy!

9.  My first concert was in 8th grade (1992!) It was Soul Asylum, Screaming Trees, and The Spin Doctors. I can't believe my parents let me go. We were just kids!

10. I love to hula hoop! I had one made for me that's black & orange. It's really cool!

Well, that's a little bit about me! Hop on over to Blog Hoppin' and link your post up!
Check back tomorrow for Day 2: Our classrooms!
